Numerous mental disorders have been recognised and defined. They include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, and many others.

Mental illness affects everyone equally. It affects people of all ages, genders, and racial and ethnic backgrounds. It also affects people of all levels of education and income. The good news is that it is frequently curable.

The illness itself can influence the signs and symptoms of mental illness. Typical signs include

feeling down for a while,

 having sudden mood swings

, withdrawing from friends, family, or activities

, having little energy, or having issues Sleeping a lot

, feeling hostile, angry, or violent

, being paranoid, hearing voices, or experiencing hallucinations

, and frequently considering suicide or death.

Some people experience the physical symptoms of a mental illness first, such as stomachaches, back pain, or insomnia.

When a person with a mental illness follows a treatment plan that may or may not include medication, they can frequently reduce their symptoms and feel better.
